“The word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.’ ‘ Ah, Sovereign Lord,’ I said, ‘I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.’ But the Lord said to me, ’Do not say, ’I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,’ declares the Lord. Jeremiah 1:4-9
God knew about the existence of us before we actually came into this world. He knew about us even before we were conceived. He knows about my children’s children. When He says, “Do not be afraid…” we can trust Him. He is omnipotent meaning He knows all and sees all. He knows the outcome of all the situations we have and will encounter. When we tell someone about Jesus, He knows whether or not that person will respond. He knows what words or verses will prick that person’s heart, convicting them of a need for a Savior. In verse 9, He tells Jeremiah that He has put His words in Jeremiah’s mouth. God is about to use Jeremiah in a mighty way. God also told him not to worry about what to say. God also made a similar promise to Moses who he was about to use to lead the Israelites. God knew the outcome of both men’s obedience, but He needed them to trust Him. Perhaps God needs you to trust Him today, remembering that He formed you in the womb and that He will put the words into your mouth. Pray for a heart that will trust God regardless of the task ahead.
